On behalf of INTO, The Land Conservancy and the Heritage Canada Foundation, we would like to thank all the participants who joined us in Victoria to make this a tremendously successful conference.  We look forward to seeing you again in two years, at the 15th International Conference of National Trusts – in Entebbe, Uganda.

The 14th International Conference of National Trusts (ICNT) will be held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on October 12 -15, 2011.  “VICTORIA 2011″ will be hosted by The Land Conservancy of British Columbia (TLC) and by the Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF).  We will welcome international delegates from National Trusts and like-minded organizations as well as heritage conservation and land trust advocates and professionals from across Canada and around the world.

The theme for “VICTORIA 2011″ is CONNECTING PEOPLE, PLACES AND STORIES:  New Strategies for Conservation in a Changing World. The conference will focus on building connections and sharing experiences to help organizations, communities and individuals charged with caring for special places meet the new challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.  Conference sessions will explore new approaches to the protection of special places as well as the stories, traditions, languages and cultures that give them meaning. A key conference goal will be to identify ways to successfully engage people and communities in this work.

The Nuu-chah-nulth people in British Columbia have a saying:  “Hishuk-ish Tsawaak”, which means “Everything is Connected.”  We will embrace this principle as we move forward to find solutions.

“VICTORIA 2011” represents an unprecedented opportunity for learning and networking. The annual Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) conference – attracting 400 conservation architects, engineers, craftspeople, and consultants – will be taking place simultaneously at the Victoria Conference Centre. There will be opportunities for delegates from both the ICNT and APT conferences to attend each other’s sessions, workshops and events. Together these events will attract over 800 cultural and land conservation delegates from around the world.
